Aranyasun is a family-owned guest house on three-quarters of an acre beside Masinagudi village, 3 km from the bus stand and 9 km from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve safari point. Pets are welcome in all six rooms — not a single designated "pet room" at the back of the property.

With only six rooms, the grounds stay quiet and uncrowded, which matters when you are travelling with a dog who needs space to settle in. We ask only that your pet is supervised and well-behaved, and that you look after cleanliness and the comfort of other guests and the wildlife we share this land with.

Travelling With Pets at the Edge of a Tiger Reserve

Masinagudi isn't a city break. Wild animals — deer, elephants, gaur and big cats — move through this landscape, so a few rules keep your pet and the wildlife safe.

On the Property

  • Keep your dog on a leash outdoors, and supervised at all times.
  • Stay within the property after dark; don't walk forest roads at dawn or dusk.
  • Keep pet food indoors and secured — it attracts wildlife.
  • Please clean up after your pet on the lawns and paths.
  • Don't leave your pet unattended in the room.

Safaris & Day Trips

  • Pets can't go on safaris or into the Mudumalai and Bandipur tiger reserves.
  • Take turns — one of you on the 3-hour jeep safari while the other stays with your pet.
  • Bird watching from the grounds is a quieter morning you can share with your pet.
  • Tell us your plans when you book and we'll suggest safari slots that work around your pet.

Getting Here by Car

  • Bangalore: about 250 km, around 5 hours via Mysore and Bandipur.
  • Mysore: 90–100 km, about 2.5 hours.
  • Ooty: 77 km, about 2.5 hours via Gudalur and Theppakadu.
  • Forest gates close at 9:00 PM and reopen at 6:00 AM — build in pet breaks early so you arrive in time.

What to Pack for Your Pet

  • Their usual food and treats, bowls, leash and a spare collar with ID tag.
  • Familiar bedding or a crate, towels and waste bags.
  • Any regular medicines and tick & flea protection — this is forest country.
  • Water in a 5 L can or reusable bottles: single-use plastic is banned in the Nilgiris, with fines of ₹500–₹10,000.

Yes. All three room categories — Garden View Room, Mountain View Room and Garden View Loft — are pet friendly. Pets must be supervised and owners are responsible for cleanliness and the comfort of other guests.

Please tell us about your pet when you enquire. Any pet charge is confirmed with your booking, along with current room rates.

No. Pets are not allowed on safaris or inside the tiger reserves. Plan safaris so that someone in your group can stay with your pet, and do not leave pets unattended.

Aranyasun sits at the edge of a tiger reserve, so wild animals move through the area. Keep your dog on a leash outdoors, stay on the property after dark, and avoid dawn and dusk walks on forest roads.

About 250 km, roughly 5 hours via Mysore and Bandipur. The Bandipur and Thorarapalli forest gates close at 9:00 PM and reopen at 6:00 AM, so plan pet breaks early enough to arrive before 9:00 PM.
